<note>The integration of Value Engineering (VE) methodology into the design and project construction/management processes is an important focus of this book. Supporting techniques are illustrated, and the text includes topics such as expanded initial and life cycle costing input, use of Quality Modeling, integrating VE and risk analysis, and greater use of computerized formats and linkages. A VE goal change emphasizes optimizing decision making rather than reducing unnecessary costs, which was the initial objective. The text outlines a VE Job plan, which is supported by a system of electronic, integrated spreadsheet templates that are provided on disk as a basic tool. Optional tools, offered as an aid to advanced practitioners, were developed especially for use in the VE process. These applications include a parameter-based cost-estimating system tied to the cost model and life cycle costing system. Seven case studies illustrate the range of application for value engineering techniques, which evaluate total building costs over the economic life of a facility. The case studies make use of excerpts from actual VE study reports for buildings and process projects to demonstrate application of value engineering</note>
