<note>This book examines the business case for good corporate citizenship and gives a workable management system for auditing and transforming stakeholder relationships. It provides numerous case studies of successful businesses, which demonstrate that stakeholder inclusion is both practical and good business. The central proposition of this book is that the long term value of a company rests primarily on: the knowledge, abilities and commitment of its employees, and its relationships with investors, customers, and other stakeholders. The first part of the book traces the origins of stakeholder interests in business, starting in most cases with the industrial revolution. Part two is a brief resume of how strategic decisions are taken in business. The rest of the book is a manual for stakeholder inclusion which can be dipped into as the reader sees fit. It takes a stakeholder by stakeholder approach rather than mixing the whole picture into one master-plan of prescription. This book analyzes the history of stakeholding in business and tells a few stories along the way. It also contains a few clues to how the involvement of multitudes of constituencies can be maximized and what benefits it can bring.</note>
