Advanced SearchPrivate Judgments or Public Evaluation? The Influe
Effects of rater self-consciousness (fenigstein, 1987) and appraisal purpose on lenienncy and accuracy were examinedin a factorial design experiment. Following administration of the self cosciousness scale, 46 high-privates and 59 high-publics evaluated subordinates for raise or training purposes. Findings support personality's role in explaining inconsistency in appraisal purpose studies.
