Group Decision Making : drawing out and reconciling differences

Authors developed the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) for hierarchical decision making and the Analytic NEtwprk Process (ANP) for decicion-making in systems with dependence and feedback. This book contains the fundamentals of both theories as well as applications.
The books’s protocols is follows:
1. Structure the problem to include all the factors that can influence the outcome. These factors are then arranged according to the importance of their influence by putting similar ones together in groups at the top of a hierarchy
2. Discuss the factors in the structure to clarify what influences what. Further discussion can lead to numerous revisions of the structure.
3. Formulate comparison question carefully and decide how strongly one factor predominates. The process is slow at first but speeds up later. Individual judgements are combaines into a group judgement by using the geometric averange wich is necessary because a reciprocal comparison must have the reciprocal value of the numerical intensity of dominance that is assigned to the original comparison.
4. In case impasse:
a. Embed the problem is a larger decision. The parties involved must agree on this new context and structure its influences as before.
b. Invite a mediator to break the impasse by examining each side’s offers and counteroffers.
c. Examine the historical origins, sonsider the possible actions that can be taken, and insist on positive gestures by the different side involved to improve goodwill and overcome opposition to the process.
