An initial study of university to industry knowled

This study was conducted to investigate the motivation of university and industry collaboration, the quality of information sharing between university and industry, the barrier, the benefits, and the outcomes of university and industry collaboration from industry perspective. Data are collected through mailed questionnaire to 500 CEO of manufacturing firms. Forty seven (47) questionnaires are returned yielding response rate 9,4 %. Through descriptive statistic analysis, it can be concluded that training is mostly adopted by the firms that manage university industry collaboration. The primary motivations to have collaboration include knowledge development, employee training and development, the implementation of company’s idea, research and development investment, and problem solution. Cultural difference and funds becomes the barrier in managing university-industry collaboration. However, successful in managing the collaboration will give many benefits such as: the availability of qualified human recourses, access to human resource training and development, and access to facilities and competence educators.
