Globalization and the Asian economic crisis



The papers are selected contributions to the international conference of the Canadian council for the Southeast Asian studies, held at university of British Columbia. The central theme of the conference was Emerging Southeast Asian Identities in an Era of Volatile Globalization. The conference generates a wealth of ideas, including localize studies that conclude:
a. To make possible new fieldwork in Southeast Asia to be undertaken on relating to the project research focus.
b. To enable recent post-docs to make return visits to their research sites.
c.To facilitating twinning between Canadian and Southeast Asian student.
A team of students and professionals have conducted a research and reviewing their findings and consecutive drafts of work in process. These papers also consist a comparative studies of social safety nets in Southeast Asian, it also means finding out had or had not been effective in responding in Asian crisis, in assisting newly impoverished individuals and house hold and other adversely impacted group.
