This book contains papers and proceedings of the seminar on the Social Effects of Economic Adjustment on Arab Countries, held in Abu Dhabi on January 17-18, 1996. This seminar was particularly timely because it addressed another important aspect of economic reform that has attracted the attention of economic policymaker, scholars and others interested in reform issues. This report provides an opportunity for those interested in the social effects of economic adjustment in the Arab world to review the findings of this conference. However, the discussion was limited to the experiences of countries that had implemented restructuring programs within the framework of agreements with the international financial institution.
